Heavenly Father,
Be with us during this time of intense waiting. You know our hearts are weak, looking to fill us up with false idols. Despite your loving grace, we are constantly drawn to earthly and fleeting pleasures.
It is good for us to spend this Lent controlling our desires for satisfaction.
It is good for us to find ways to pour out our blessing on others.
It is good for us to spend time on our knees, at your feet.
Bless us, oh Lord, as we sojourn through this season of plentiful desert-existence.
You are our love,
our dearest friend,
our cherished counselor.
Give us peace, oh Lord, as we wrestle with our own over-abundance.
You are our rock,
our anchor,
our strength. Amen.
Beautiful. Yes, we do over abundance of so much. Things that are good because of balance they can bring us as we sojourn, but can take us off The Way if we mistake them for ends instead of just means. That said, we have a superabundance of things we can never have enough of. Let us turn away from the over abundance of things like food and drink and towards the superabundance of things like God’s love for us. Wishing you a blessed Good Friday!
